iSYSTEMTechBlog: winIDEA is fully integrated in Eclipse

winIDEA is fully integrated into the Eclipse debug environment. Using an iSYSTEM debug plug-in for Eclipse you can use the full debugging capabilities of winIDEA and iSYSTEM´s debuggers from within Eclipse. Eclipse is used as an editor, a project & build manager as well as a debugger. It provides all standard CDT debugger functionality, plus SFR (Special Functions Register) view and Real-time Expressions view. iSYSTEM also provides a Regular Expression Error Parser Plug-in for CDT.

 The iSYSTEM debug plug-in provides more than CDT debugger, but less than winIDEA. Comparing to winIDEA, the plug-in does not implement trace, execution coverage and profiler functionality. winIDEA still runs in the background, but during debugging no switching the winIDEA is necessary.

 Beside Ganymede (Eclipse 3.4) and Galileo (Eclipse 3.5) iSYSTEM now also supports Helios (Eclipse 3.6). All necessary documentation and downloads can be found here:

iSYSTEM Web Based Training now online

A "getting started" service for new users and a "did I miss something" service for experienced users. This web module will be constantly enhanced in order to create a web based training service for iSYSTEM customers, prospects, partners and students (and others) to pro-actively learn the efficiant use of iSYSTEM tools without reading a manual or an online help. All trainings are short, well structured and come with videos and automated demos to visualize important aspects of the iSYSTEM tool handling.

It is not hard to learn more.  What is hard is to unlearn when you discover yourself wrong.

Results of iSYSTEMs SMPO Survey: „Do you use Eclipse as a development platform?”

For the last 4 weeks iSYSTEM was running a survey on the usage of Eclipse as a development platform.

Here are the results of iSYSTEMs poll:
28,6% answered to already use Eclipse as their standard development platform.
Another 4,8% will move to Eclipse within the next 12 months.
42,9%  stay with the development platform they have currently in use.
And 23,8% do not consider to utilize Eclipse within the next 12 months.

The results confirm an article published in the “Embedded Software Engineering Report” magazine (www.ese-report.de ), that said that Open Source IDEs have a market share of about 15%, but with an increasing demand.

iSYSTEM’s SMPO currently runs a survey about the usage of Eclipse as a development platform. 
We would like to encourage you to tell us about your thoughts on Eclipse.

According to a recently published article within the “Embedded Software Engineering Report” magazine (www.ese-report.de), Open Source IDEs have a market share of about 15%. But there is an increasing demand for such kind of open development platforms.

Next to supporting various Microsoft Windows platforms (Vista, XP SP2, 2000 SP4, NT 4.0 SP3), iSYSTEM also provides support for Eclipse. “Last year we committed ourselves to an Eclipse roadmap as well as to continue the development of our Windows-based environment. First step was to implement a call plug-in, so that iSYSTEMs IDE can be launched by Eclipse. Then we released a debug plug-in to have a tighter integration into Eclipse”, says Erol Simsek, Director Sales & Marketing.

iSYSTEM Debug Plug-In
The iSYSTEM Debug Plug-In allows debugging directly from within the Eclipse debug environment. Eclipse is used as an editor, a project and build manager as well as a debugger. It provides all standard CDT debugger functionality, plus SFR view and Real-time Expressions view.

iSYSTEM Call Plug-In
The iSYSTEM Call Plug-In starts a winIDEA instance directly from the Eclipse debug environment. Eclipse is used as an editor, and a project and build manager while winIDEA is running in parallel and is used for debugging, trace and code coverage.

iSYSTEM Regular Expression Error Parser Plug-In for CDT
This plug-in contains an error parser, which is configurable. Regular expressions used to detect warnings and errors are read from a text file in Java properties format. It is open source (EPL), so you can also use it as a starting point for more advanced error parsers.
